Error with inbox message count

New/Beta channels: video navigator not appearing for some users

Hey folks!

We've seen some of you with the new channel design mention that you're unable to get the featured video and video options to appear at the top of your channel. We're aware of this issue and working hard to make sure you're all able to see the video navigation module at the top of your channel.

An update on Video View Counts

Hi everyone,

Recently we have seen questions about why some YouTube video view counts "freeze" around 300 views. To help prevent confusion, we wanted to post a quick explanation of what's going on. View counts are extremely important to our community, so we work hard to ensure those view counts are accurate. Occasionally, when a video becomes popular quickly, it takes our computers longer to make sure those views are accurate. This means a video's viewcount may not update for several hours, sometimes allowing ratings and comments on the same video to climb temporarily higher than the views. So if you see your video views aren't moving, or that your video's comments and ratings are moving faster than your views, don't worry. If you're still getting views, the count should update soon.

Trouble adding videos to your playlist?

We've seen many of you report that you're having trouble adding videos to your playlists (from the new/beta channels). The issue's been reported to our engineers, and the team's currently working on resolving the situation. Once they've found a fix, you will be able to add videos to your playlists again.

New channel update (July 11th, 2009)

Today the team made an announcement regarding new channels on the YouTube blog (http://youtube-global.blogspot.com/). I've included the information below. You can also check out our Help Center article (http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=152024) for updates on new channels and instructions on how to customize your channel (if you have the new channel layout).

We want to give you a heads up that we're changing the day on which we'll move all remaining channels over to the new version. Why? Well, July 15th is almost here, and we realized that we still have a few bugs and things left on the to-do list.

Specifically, here's what we plan to do before we roll the new version out to all remaining channels:

*** Add transparency (now done)
*** Fix some browser-specific layout bugs - in particular, IE6 has a few issues right now
*** Allow you to default your channel to "grid" view
*** Allow you to re-order your uploads & playlists
*** Fixes for some of the other bugs you've helped find (such as grid view not always working in IE), and other small things

So when's the new date? That part's a little trickier - rather than try to predict it, we'd rather focus our time on taking care of the above list. But we'll announce the new date no less than 2 weeks before it happens - and yes, it's still coming this summer. Keep an eye out here or on our beta blog (http://youtube-channels-beta.blogspot.com/). Some videos shortened after AudioSwap

Hi everyone,

Quick update on AudioSwap. We've seen many of you express that you're having trouble with videos that were AudioSwapped: namely that these videos have been truncated (shortened). Sometimes, it appears that the videos are shortened to 1 minute 47 seconds.

The team here is aware of the issue and is currently working on a fix.

Forum bug: user levels dropping to "Level 1"

Hi everyone,

As some of you may have noticed, your user "level" in the Help Forum may have dropped over the past couple days. This is a bug on our end- you didn't do anything to cause your level to go down.

Our engineering team's aware of this bug, and is currently trying to find a fix for this situation. Once the bug's resolved you will return to the previous Help Forum level you had earlier this week (prior to the bug).

Download to MP4 (button not appearing)

I've seen many of you discussing that you're having trouble downloading your uploaded videos (to MP4). The majority of you mention that the "Download to MP4" button sometimes doesn't appear next to your videos, and so you're unable to download your video.

There's a reason for this! The button disappearing isn't a bug, its actually how the feature works...

You can download (to MP4) your own videos that you uploaded to YouTube. This download option is only available for your video uploads, not for other users' videos.

To download your own videos to MP4:

Sign into your account.
Click on the Account link in the top right hand corner of your screen.
Under My Videos click Uploaded Videos.
Find the video you'd like to download and click the "Download to MP4" button.

PLEASE NOTE:

There is a limit of TWO downloads per hour for downloading your video to MP4. The "Download to MP4 button will not appear next to your videos if you've already downloaded two videos in an hour. Once an hour has passed, the button will appear again and you'll have the option to download additional videos.

If your video has already been removed from the site, or if you've used audioswap, the video will not be available for download.

New channel design -- update

To summarize, all newly created YouTube accounts will now have the new channel design. On July 15th, all existing and new accounts will receive the new channel layout.

New: 2GB uploads

Hey guys,

Just wanted to share an exciting piece of news with you all! Starting today, we're increasing the upload limit from 1GB to 2GB for video files! :)

Although this 2GB uploading option is very exciting, because its so new, there are still a couple of bugs: notably for users with computers that do not have enough free memory. Users in this situation might receive an error when they try to upload these large 2GB files.

The error will say "Upload failed: An unknown error occurred".

Users who are likely to experience errors include those using:

Operating System: Mac OS only
Web-Browsers: Firefox or Safari
Memory: ~1-3 GB RAM

Users who are receiving this error are encouraged to use the following uploader in order to successfully upload videos to the site:

"Email address is not verified" bug

We've heard from some of you that you're continually prompted to confirm your email address, even if you've already confirmed your email address in the past.

The bug's been reported to our Team, and they're currently working hard to find a permanent fix. For now, here's a work-around to bypass the error message:

STEP 1:

Go to the URL below:

https://www.google.com/accounts/ManageAccount

If there are no red letters saying "Email address is not verified", then continue to STEP 2.

If you do see the red error message, you'll need to check your email account and confirm your email address (by clicking the link in the email that YouTube sent you when you created your username and account).

If you entered a wrong email address when creating your username, then you can click on "Change email".

If you're unable to find the confirmation email from YouTube, then you should also check your spam folder in your email account to make sure the confirmation email was not filtered there.

Once you've found the email, click the link included in the email to confirm your account. Your new YouTube account will then be activated (and you'll be able to use our community features).

STEP 2:

After you've confirmed / verified your email, go to the following URL:

http://www.youtube.com/finish_ssu

As mentioned before, our team's currently trying resolve the situation, and a permanent fix (in addition to this temporary work-around) will be on its way shortly. Thank you, as always, for your patience and understanding in the meantime.

Upload trouble

We've seen posts reporting that the upload button is failing for many of you- especially users using Firefox as their web-browser. The team here has been informed of the situation and is currently trying to resolve the matter.

In the meantime, as a temporary fix, you could try switching to a different web-browser in order to upload files from your computer to our site. This may help you upload videos without encountering the bug.

We really appreciate your reports informing us of the situation and your patience as the team fixes the issue.
